Counselling

I want to share a little bit about my counselling practice, to help you decide whether I am the right kind of counsellor for you:

Firstly, all my work is confidential and I make a concerted effort to make sure that my clients always feel safe and that they are being treated professionally. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Integral Focus, Narrative Inspired

As a counsellor, I work from an integral perspective, which means that I am deeply committed to helping people grow and untie the knots that life and circumstances have created for them. I work with Mindfulness and Somatic based interventions to help liberate trapped feelings and free up vitality in relationships and individuals. This can involve opening up new perspectives, creating room for personal resilience, and helping old patterns ease into change.

I am also informed by Narrative therapy and I often encourage clients to reflect on how the stories we tell about our lives come to define us. I tend to explore the meaning of these stories with clients, looking for practical alternatives that lead my clients toward their goals and a preferred sense of who they are. I trained at the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Vancouver and have taken further study at the Vancouver School of Narrative Therapy. I am a Certified Integral Facilitator with Ten Directions.

Areas of expertise

Through my training, I became broadly qualified and often work with clients who have concerns with depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, self image and esteem. I also have specialized training in working with couples or individuals around issues of gender and sexuality, including:

  • issues around intimacy

  • attachment wounds and their impact

  • gender identity questions

  • sexual compulsiveness

  • sexual functioning and sex education

  • polyamory, open relationships, relationship anarchy, and other forms of CNM

  • kink desire and other taboo interests

  • differentiating kink desire and trauma reenactment

  • differences of desire

  • the legacy of sexual trauma

  • navigating asexuality and demi-sexuality

  • freeing oneself from shame around sexual orientation and desire

  • religion and spirituality, and their relationship to sex

I have worked extensively with couples and relationships of all orientations and backgrounds.

Affiliations

In addition to my private work with clients, I am an associate of Dr. Bianca Rucker where I work with individuals and couples around relationships and sexuality. I have trained with Dr. Peggy Kleinplatz to run her Optimal Sexual Experience groups and I am passionate about her research as laid out in her book Magnificent Sex. https://www.optimalsexualexperiences.com/

Although I no longer work for the BC Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse (BCSMSSA), I do still offer long term therapy for men and male identified clients working through the legacy of historic trauma. I have supported hundreds of men in overcoming their experiences of childhood sexual abuse.

I have trained in psychedelic therapy with Therapsil under the tutelage of Dr. Ingrid Pacey and Charlotte Jackson. I believe that psychedelic informed psychotherapy offers a powerful tool in addressing deep trauma and various other challenging problems that talk therapy struggles to overcome.

I hope that this has been enough to spark your interest in working with me. If you want any more concrete details about cost of therapy, frequency of sessions, or clarifications on my approach I encourage you to contact me.
